In the back corner of the store is a customer services center with lockers for online pickup and a counter to return goods bought online. –There’s also a kitchen with hot foods like pizza, a “carvery,” a station for sandwiches made to order, and freshly made sushi. Its aisles are packed with recognized brands and unique items made for Amazon. An Amazon associate said it’s the biggest store so far among those under development or open. It has a meat counter, fresh fish, a bakery, and more. –The store is big and is considered full service. Shoppers will have to use a traditional cashier lane at checkout. –There are standard carts for bigger shopping trips. –You cannot take the Dash Cart out of the store, so it’s either carry the bags or switch them to a standard cart. But two lights on the cart will turn blue, indicating some items will require approval at the contactless checkout line. –Yes, you can buy alcohol using the smart cart. –The carts have a weight sensor, so if you drop an item into the basket and it doesn’t scan, lights inside the cart turn orange, indicating a malfunction or missing price. –Find an item without a barcode (we found a packaged doughnut missing its price sticker), and it won’t scan. –If a large item blocks the scanner, say a case of water or paper towel, the cart’s cameras will not be able to scan more groceries. The most convincing evidence so far though is the development page on the Brixmor website.Īt this point, we can all but officially confirm an Amazon Fresh grocery store is taking the place of the former Shaw’s in WaterTower Plaza. Others have spoken to managers at certain locations in WaterTower Plaza that have also said Amazon Fresh. For example, one person said that a worker gave them a corporate name on their phone that is associated with Amazon Fresh. There’s also been unconfirmed rumors and information in the Leominster Facebook groups that support this. All you have to do to confirm this is Google “Amazon Fresh”, and look at pictures of other Amazon Fresh stores, or check out the one that is opening in Saugus. WaterTower Plaza Construction Project Pageīrixmor, the company that manages WaterTower Plaza, has a page on their website that lists projects that are currently under development. We also think it will be Amazon Fresh based on what we’ve seen. Lately, however, information has been coming out that is pointing to Amazon Fresh. One of the most popular Leominster Facebook groups has people posting about it nearly once a week. There has been a lot of speculation about what is going into the former Shaw’s at WaterTower Plaza.
